Select (highlight) any word on any webpage and the definition popup appears automatically. No clicking, no keyboard shortcuts — just select text. For English words, you'll see the definition with part of speech, examples, and a 🔊 button to hear the pronunciation. For words in other languages, you'll see a translation into your preferred language. You can also right-click any selected text and choose "Look up in Bellek" — this works even when the popup is toggled off.
Yes — new in v1.5! Click the 🔊 speaker button next to any word to hear its pronunciation (audio from Merriam-Webster). It works in the lookup popup, on your saved words in the dashboard, and on flashcards while you study. Pronunciation audio is free for everyone.
When the popup appears, click "Save & Learn" (or just press Enter). The word is saved with the full sentence context from the page, the source URL, difficulty level, pronunciation audio, and — if translations are enabled — a translation into your preferred language. The entire process takes under 2 seconds.
Yes. You can look up unlimited words without ever saving any. Saving is completely optional — only save the words you actually want to learn.
Yes. Every word has a notes field in the popup where you can type your own definition, memory cue, usage note, or anything else.
For studying flashcards, yes — use the dashboard or scan the QR code to open your mobile study URL. But to look up and save words while browsing, you need the Chrome extension on desktop.
Yes. Click the Bellek extension icon to toggle the definition popup on or off. When off, you can still right-click any word and choose "Look up in Bellek."
No account is required for free use — your data is stored locally in your browser. A free Bellek account (email or Google sign-in) is optional and adds cloud backup of your words and progress, so your vocabulary survives reinstalls. An account is required to purchase Premium, because your subscription is linked to it and works wherever you sign in.
In the extension's account settings, choose "Delete account." This permanently removes your account and cloud data. Export your words to CSV first if you want a backup.
Bellek provides English definitions (powered by Merriam-Webster and Free Dictionary) with pronunciation audio, examples, and part of speech. You can then translate any word and its definition into 20 languages: Turkish, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Chinese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Thai, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, and Indonesian.
Set your preferred language in Settings (or accept the auto-detected suggestion — you can change it anytime). After that, every word you look up shows a translation into your language right in the popup alongside the English definition. When you save a word, the translation is stored too. Free users get 3 translations per day. Premium users get unlimited.
Yes. If you select a word on a French, Spanish, Turkish, or any other website, Bellek will translate it into your preferred language.

Yes, anytime, in Settings.
The free version includes everything you need to get started:
Installed Bellek before v1.5.2? You keep your original 30-word limit, and full definitions & synonyms remain free for you until 1 September 2026.
Premium removes all limits and unlocks the full lookup and study experience:
Monthly and yearly plans include a 7-day free trial.
Start the trial from the extension — you'll be asked for a payment method at checkout. You get 7 days of full Premium. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts automatically and your card is charged for the plan you picked. We send a reminder email before the trial ends, and you can cancel anytime during the trial (Settings → Manage Subscription) without paying anything. One free trial per customer. The Lifetime plan is a one-time purchase and doesn't include a trial.
You can continue looking up words (unlimited), but you can't save new ones until you either delete some or upgrade to Premium. You can always export your words, clear your collection, and start fresh.
Yes. Open the extension → Settings → Manage Subscription — this opens Stripe's secure portal where you can cancel in a couple of clicks. If you cancel during your free trial, you won't be charged at all. After that, you keep access until the end of your billing period. Your words stay accessible within free plan limits, and you can always export everything via CSV.
Nothing bad! If you subscribed before our move to Stripe (via ExtensionPay), your Premium keeps working. You'll see an in-app note inviting you to switch to the new checkout before 30 September 2026 to keep Premium after that date. You'll never be charged twice for the same period.
Bellek's mobile experience is a browser-based web app. From your dashboard on desktop, scan a QR code to generate your unique sync URL. Open that URL on any phone, tablet, or device to study your saved words with flashcards. No app download required.
It's simple:
Yes. Create collections to organize words by topic, subject, book, language, or any category. Examples: "IELTS Prep," "Medical Terms," "French Reading." Free users get 3 collections. Premium users get unlimited.
Yes. Export your deck as a CSV file, then import it into Bellek. The importer auto-detects formats from Anki, Quizlet, and generic spreadsheets. Free accounts can import up to their saved-word limit; Premium supports unlimited.
Yes. Your data belongs to you. Export your vocabulary as CSV files anytime with full language support — use them in other apps, spreadsheets, or as a backup. All translations and context are included in the export.
Bellek uses spaced repetition algorithms to show words right before you're about to forget them. Words you know well appear less often. Words you struggle with appear more frequently. This optimizes your study time so you focus where it matters.
Free: Flashcards with spaced repetition.
Premium adds: Multiple Choice Quiz mode and Smart Review (focuses only on words you've marked as difficult or keep getting wrong).
Your dashboard shows daily streaks, mastery percentages for each word, weekly goals (choose from light to intensive), session history, and personalized insights. See at a glance which words are mastered and which need more practice.
When you save a word, Bellek captures the full sentence where you found it. This is how your brain naturally remembers vocabulary — through context and usage, not isolated definitions. When you review a word later, you see exactly how it was used in real content.
Yes. Your vocabulary lives in your browser's local storage, plus encrypted cloud backup if you create an account (stored in the UK/EU). We don't sell your data, track your browsing, or show ads. Card payments are handled entirely by Stripe — we never see your card number. Export and delete anytime. See our Privacy Policy.
