1. Agreement to Terms

By using Bellek, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you disagree with any part, you may not use our service.

2. Description of Service

Bellek is a Chrome extension (with a companion web app) that helps users build their vocabulary by:

• Looking up word definitions, synonyms, and pronunciation while browsing
• Translating words and definitions into the user's preferred language
• Saving words with context for later study
• Building personal vocabulary libraries
• Providing flashcard, quiz, and smart-review learning tools
• Tracking learning progress

3. Accounts

3.1 No Account Required for Free Use

You can use Bellek's free features without creating an account. Your data is stored locally in your browser.

3.2 Free Bellek Account (Optional)

You may create a free account using an email address and password, or by signing in with Google. An account enables:

• Cloud backup of your vocabulary and learning progress
• Restoring your data after reinstalling
• Purchasing and managing a Premium subscription (an account is required for Premium, because your subscription is linked to it)

3.3 Account Security

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials (and, for the legacy mobile-sync feature, your sync link)
• One person per account (no sharing)
• You can delete your account at any time from the extension's account settings; this permanently removes your cloud data

4. Subscriptions and Billing

4.1 Plans

• Free Plan: limited features as described on our pricing page
• Premium Monthly: $3.99/month
• Premium Yearly: $29.99/year
• Lifetime: $79.99 one-time payment — permanent access to Premium features, no recurring charges

4.2 Payment Terms

• All payments are processed by Stripe; prices are in USD unless otherwise specified
• Monthly and yearly subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled
• Price changes are notified 30 days in advance and never affect an already-paid period
• The Lifetime plan is a one-time purchase and does not renew

4.3 Free Trials

• New subscribers to the Monthly or Yearly plan receive a 7-day free trial of Premium (the Lifetime plan is a one-time purchase and does not include a trial)
• A valid payment method is required to start the trial
• If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription automatically converts to a paid subscription and your payment method is charged for the plan you selected
• We (via Stripe) send a reminder email before your trial ends
• Cancel any time during the trial — via Manage Subscription in the extension — and you will not be charged
• One free trial per customer. If you have previously subscribed or trialed, new checkouts will not include a trial period.

4.4 Legacy ExtensionPay Subscriptions

Subscriptions purchased through our previous payment provider (ExtensionPay) before the transition to Stripe remain valid. Legacy subscribers keep Premium access through the transition period (in-app access honored until 30 September 2026) and are invited in-app to move to the new system. No one is charged twice for the same period.

5. Refund & Cancellation Policy

5.1 Cancellation

• Cancel anytime via Manage Subscription in the extension (Settings or your account menu), which opens the secure Stripe customer portal
• Access continues until the end of the paid billing period; no partial refunds for unused time
• Cancelling during a free trial means you are never charged

5.2 Refund Eligibility

We review refund requests case-by-case. You may be eligible if:

• You cancel within 12 hours of being charged
• Technical issues prevented service use
• You were charged but never gained Premium access
• Extended inactivity (multiple months) with no usage
• Accidental purchase with prompt notification
• Duplicate charges for the same period
• Unauthorized account access/charges

Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights (including UK/EU consumer rights).

5.3 Refund Process

Submit requests via our website contact form. Reviews are completed within 2–3 business days. Refunds are issued at our discretion (subject to your statutory rights).

6. Acceptable Use

6.1 You agree NOT to:

Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code; use automated systems to access the service; violate laws or regulations; infringe intellectual property rights; harass, abuse, or harm others; attempt unauthorized access; resell or redistribute the service; abuse the free trial (e.g., creating multiple accounts to obtain repeated trials).

6.2 Content Guidelines

You retain rights to your saved vocabulary. Don't save content that violates copyrights. We may remove content that violates these Terms.

7. Intellectual Property

Our property: the Bellek name, logo, branding, software code, algorithms, UI designs, documentation, and marketing materials.

Your property: your saved words and vocabulary lists, personal learning data and statistics, and content you create using Bellek.

8. Privacy

Your use of Bellek is subject to our Privacy Policy. By using Bellek, you consent to our data practices as described there.

9. Disclaimers and Limitations

9.1 Service Availability

We strive for high availability but don't guarantee uninterrupted service. Scheduled maintenance will be communicated in advance. No liability for third-party website or service availability (including dictionary and payment providers).

9.2 Learning Outcomes

Bellek is a learning tool, not a guarantee of vocabulary mastery. Results depend on individual effort and consistency.

9.3 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bellek shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages; lost profits or data; or damages exceeding the amount you paid in the last 12 months.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Bellek from claims arising from your use of the service, violation of these Terms, infringement of third-party rights, or your content or actions.

11. Modifications to Service

We reserve the right to modify or discontinue features, change pricing with 30 days' notice, and update these Terms with notification.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

13. Dispute Resolution

First attempt informal resolution by contacting us. If that fails, disputes will be resolved through the courts of the United Kingdom.

14. General Provisions

Entire Agreement: these Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Bellek. Severability: if any provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. No Waiver: failure to enforce a right isn't a waiver of it.
